Mind Mapping - Show Them, Don't Tell Them

Communicating Through Mind Maps

Successful agents know that we don't "sell" homes to our clients.  They buy once they come to the conclusion that this is the time and the property to pursue. If we educate and advise our clients properly we can guide them more effectively in the home buying or selling process.

I believe consumers respond better to a "show me" than a "tell me" approach. Strictly verbal communication often leads to a dead end as our message isn't fully understood. Perception is the problem and theclipdoesn't always go on in the mind of the consumer. We don't know if they truly comprehend what we are trying to tell them.

I have had great success using mind maps to illustrate my ideas and communicate vital information to clients and agents throughout the training process.

"A mind map is a diagram used to represent words, ideas, tasks, or other items linked to and arranged radially around a central key word or idea. Mind maps are used to generate, visualize, structure, and classify ideas, and as an aid in study, organization, problem solving, decision making, and writing."  Wikipedia

A great example of a simple mind map would be a floor plan or landscape design; here, the architect shows us their vision instead of simply explaining it in words.  A bar graph or an organizational chart is another excellent example.  A great tool for building mind maps is Smart Draw, which provides a number of easy-to-edit templates in several different categories.  The following is an example of a mind map that represents one of the services offered by Virtual Homes, Inc.:

Heather - Pictures can really tell the story.  This is the major reason that TV is so powerful in controlling consumer confidence.

You are right on about letting the buyers make the decision.  Just help them find it...and they will buy
